DRU’s New Leadership Assumes Charge with Unity and Dedication

The newly elected committee of the Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) has officially taken charge, committing to enhancing professionalism, improving infrastructure, increasing skills, and safeguarding the rights of its members. The handover ceremony was held on Friday, December 6, at DRU's Nasrul Hamid Auditorium, where the outgoing committee transferred responsibilities to the newly elected leadership for the 2025 term.

The DRU Executive Committee elections were conducted on November 30, 2024. Abu Saleh Aknan, the Chief Reporter of Daily Naya Diganta, was elected as President, while Mainul Hasan Sohel, Senior Reporter of Daily Inqilab, was elected as General Secretary.

At the event, outgoing President Syed Shukur Ali Shuvo and outgoing General Secretary Mohi Uddin led the proceedings. The newly elected President, Abu Saleh Aknan, and General Secretary, Mainul Hasan Sohel, also addressed the gathering. They emphasized their determination to uphold the organization’s mission and remembered the sacrifices of activists during the July-August uprisings of the current year, holding a prayer service in their memory.

The ceremony included the exchange of flowers between outgoing and incoming committee members. The new leaders also presented crests to the outgoing leadership as a gesture of appreciation.

Key positions in the 2025 Executive Committee include Gazi Anwar as Vice President, Nadia Sharmin as Joint Secretary, Sakhawat Hossain Sumon as Treasurer, and Abdul Hai Tuhin as Organizational Secretary, along with other specialized roles. Several members were also elected to the executive panel, with representatives from various media organizations.

The event saw the participation of prominent past presidents and general secretaries of DRU, including Sakhawat Hossain Badsha, Jamal Uddin, Rafiq Azad, and Nazrul Islam Mithu, along with numerous other members of the DRU.
